Over 200 people are expected to gather in the Teakean-Cavendish community of North Central Idaho for a weekend of rifle shooting at exploding targets, during the 8th annual Boomershoot, April 29-May 1, 2005. On the first two days of the event, a precision rifle seminar will be taught by Major (Retired) Gene Econ, with profits donated to the Lancer Memorial Fund, to assist family members of deceased or severely wounded Stryker Brigade soldiers stationed in Iraq.

”The Lancers have experienced some tough action over the last few months,” says Gene Econ, Boomershoot rifle seminar Instructor who has been working as a Marksmanship Instructor/Staff Advisor for the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), aka Lancer Brigade, stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington state.

The Lancer Memorial Fund assists family members who aren’t normally covered by Army casualty assistance funds, helping them travel to Fort Lewis for services, or visit wounded Lancers. Money not used for providing support to families will be dedicated to a memorial in recognition of Lancers who have fallen in Iraq.

”Recently, the fund has been hit pretty hard,” says Econ. “So I’m giving all profits from the Boomershoot Rifle Clinic to the Lancer Memorial Fund.”

Individuals not enrolling in the Boomershoot rifle seminar are welcome to make direct contributions to the
Lancer Memorial Fund by contacting the fund organizer, Master Sergeant Cheryl Kirk, at (253) 967-4208 or
cheryl.kirk@lewis.army.mil . Businesses, schools, churches, or volunteer groups wanting to organize a fundraiser for the Lancers should also contact Master Sergeant Kirk. Donations to the Lancer Memorial Fund are tax-deductible.

Boomershoot was started in 1998 to give people a safe space in which to enjoy the recreational pleasure of guns and explosives. Event Director Joe Huffman is a government scientist, certified firearms instructor, and has an ATF license to manufacture high explosives. Boomershoot has maintained an A+ safety record with participants adhering to strict standards of safe gun handling and operation. Spectators are welcome at this year’s event; shooter and precision rifle seminar positions are expected to sellout.
